After not compling with the summer ultimatum, Iran was offered another deadline namely the 31st of August to suspend it’s uranium enrichment and re-processing activities. However Iran’s response was the following: “Tehran will not yield to international pressure to stop its sensitive nuclear work”, that’s what Iran’s president stated. I, for one, find this statement baffling to say the least, mainly because it is comming from a man that has made previous attempts to improve relations between his country and the United States or the Western World. This is why I fell that I must ask the question that might seem a bit rough but nonetheless pertinent: Does this man know what he wants?; or does he know what he wants for his country?; or even more important is this a man that the world can trust to implement a peacefull nuclear program in his country? Frankly, I am a bit surprised to see that Iran, after all the understanding it has received from the UN is now warning the UN that “it would take ‘appropriate measures‘ in retaliation for any punitive action”. However Iran has not yet specified what measures it could take if sanctions were imposed. The only statement that came from an Iranian official as regards to the possible sanctions of the UN was the folllowing “When they approve it, we will make an announcement,” Hosseini said. So untill the UN approves something and Iran makes an annoucement this is going to be my shortest post because we will just have to wait and see what the following week will bring.
